Melissa Leo has reached the top of what it means to be a great and successful actor, but the star of films such as The Fighter, The Equalizer, and Prisoners has a true passion for the work. She proves it every time she takes on a role, giving an effort that is truly an embodiment of what it means to become a character. She proves it once again with her excellent work in Nnamdi Asomugha’s The Knife, where she plays a detective called to a murder scene and walks the fine line between neutral help and prying instigator. It’s a chilling and impressive performance. I was fortunate to speak with Melissa, during which we discussed how growing up without watching movies influenced the type of actor she is, her work on the show Homicide, and her trust in Asomugha to make an impressive film.
