Gregg Araki- Hot Seat Interview- Director- I Want Your Sex

In the circles of independent cinema, Gregg Araki has been making movies since 1987. The Los Angeles, California, native went to film school, but from the jump, he was a director with his own style and cinematic language. His Teenage Apocalypse film trilogy cemented him as an artist with a voice about sex, coming-of-age stories, and queer identity. He’s been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and was also the winner of the first Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival. His newest film, I Want Your Sex, might be some of his best work yet. He blends a unique style of comedy and comments on the state of sexuality amongst the Gen Z generation. I was so grateful to speak with Gregg on the Hot Seat, where we talked about never forgetting his roots in independent cinema, whether Mysterious Skin or any of his movies could be considered “mainstream”, and creating a character with Olivia Wilde.
