Angus MacLachlan- Hot Seat Interview- Writer/Director- A Little Prayer
Writer/director Angus MacLachlan‘s breakthrough in cinema was his screenplay for the Oscar-nominated film Junebug. It was the kind of film that audiences and the industry take notice of. Since then, MacLachlan has directed three films, including his most recent- A Little Prayer, which just might be his masterpiece. The 66-year-old made this beautiful independent film with his own family in mind, with his heart on his sleeve, but what can’t be stated enough is just how universal his writing is. I could see myself in nearly every character, with spectacular performances from Jane Levy and David Strathairn, it’s easy to see why MacLachlan‘s work delivers a great impact. I was lucky to talk with Angus when he was in town for the 12th Chicago Film Critics Festival, where we talked about his relationship with his actors, the journey of getting A Little Prayer into production, and how his films remind him of family.
