Devon Sawa- Hot Seat Interview- Actor- The Girl in the River

At this point, who doesn’t know Devon Sawa? The Vancouver, Canada, native made his big splash as a child actor in 1994’s Little Giants and the 1995 family hit, Casper. Since then, Sawa has been a staple of genre cinema. His career is defined by his segments of growing up, from being a kid in Now and Then to his transition to more teenage-angst films such as SLC Punk!, Idle Hands, and Final Destination. What’s so commendable about Sawa is how he even took a five-year break from acting, realizing that the industry can seriously burn a person out. Now in his 40’s, Sawa has taken on darker, more adult roles in films such as playing a persistent detective in Heart Eyes, a violent mob head in Thieves Highway, or playing a teacher in the new Disney+ series Coven Academy. Sawa‘s recent film, The Girl in the River, has him playing a veteran criminologist with a haunted past. He searches for the killer of a teenage girl and for her kidnapped sister. I was so lucky to be able to speak with Devon about his career, working with Christina Ricci on Casper, how Pulp Fiction changed the way he saw acting, taking a break from the profession, and being present in the moment for the movies he makes.
