Veronica Cartwright- Hot Seat Interview- Actor- The Ruse

There is no doubt that Veronica Cartwright is a legend of cinema. The veteran actor has worked with directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, William Wyler, Ridley Scott, and George Miller. And that is only a few of the many. With over 150 credits to her name, Cartwright has been a resilient character actor, getting her start in Wyler’s film The Children’s Hour, alongside Audrey Hepburn, and continuing to land in classic after classic. She’s known for her iconic reaction to the chestburster in Alien. She’s the kid running down the hill being chased in The Birds. She was even the supportive wife of Gus Grissom in The Right Stuff. And the list of classic television shows she’s been a part of goes on for days. In 2025, nothing is slowing her down either. Cartwright was available to chat about her performance in the new dark mystery film, The Ruse, where she plays an elderly woman suffering from dementia and at the center of an old house that has caused her nurses to mysteriously disappear. I was incredibly grateful to speak with Veronica, who talks about her experience with Hitchcock, her journey back to acting school, growing up with a sister who also makes movies, and the lasting impression her films have made on the audience.
