E.L. Katz- Hot Seat Interview- Director- Azrael
Director E.L. Katz has climbed the mountain to become the prominent horror director that he is. Katz originally got his start as a film critic, writing for outlets such as Fangoria, Life Sucks Die, and Creature Corner. But the director hit the big time with his cult classic Cheap Thrills, a dark comedy about a group of guys doing wild things to their bodies for extra cash. What followed was some work in television, his Netflix film Small Crimes, and The Haunting of Bly Manor, but now he is back into his bloody streak with the apocalyptic survival film Azrael. It stars Samara Weaving running for her life without the ability to speak, fighting off various groups of survivors, and an evil entity that lurks in the forest. Azrael premiered at SXSW this year, and I talked to the New York native about his partnership with Simon Barrett, the 10th anniversary of Cheap Thrills, and putting Samara Weaving through the mud to make a great movie.
