Raoul Peck- Hot Seat Interview- Director- Silver Dollar Road
Raoul Peck is an intellect. A brilliant man, who has lived an extraordinary life, which includes working in the Haitian government, earning his degree in film from Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany, and being an Oscar-nominated filmmaker. His previous film, I Am Not Your Negro was a powerful work that took the writing of James Baldwin’s unfinished novel “Remember This House” and set it against the mistreatment of Black Americans in the United States. His recent film, Silver Dollar Road shines a light on how Black Americans are still being mistreated today. It tells the story of the Reels family, who were removed from their land, which had been in their family name for centuries. I had the chance to speak with Raoul about this incredibly poignant and important topic. We discuss the impact of this story today, the importance of telling the harsh reality of American history, and the love he has for the Reels family. Watch it here:
