Wendi McLendon-Covey- Hot Seat Interview- Actor- Elemental
Wendi McLendon-Covey is a native of Bellflower, California. Just because you grew up an hour outside of Hollywood doesn’t mean it’s easy to get a foot in the door. In fact, McLendon-Covey‘s story is a cool one. She had a job working at a hotel and was also the editor of Cal State University’s Academic Journal. In the day she worked and in the evening she attended classes at The Groundlings improv school. That time at The Groundlings harnessed her great improvisational skills and cemented a friendship with Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy. That camaraderie brought her to be a part of the hit movie Bridesmaids and from there she’s never looked back. She just finished her 10-year run on The Goldbergs, earning her two critics’ choice nominations for actress in a comedy series, and now she can put a Pixar feather in her cap. She is the voice of Gale in the new romantic animated film Elemental, playing a puff cloud that is a big sports nut, who also holds the fate of our heroes in her fluffy hands. It’s just more great work from an actress who continues to leave a mark no matter the task at hand. I had the chance to sit down and chant with Wendi while she was promoting Elemental, where we talk about saying goodbye to The Goldbergs, her inspiration behind Gale, and bringing to life the dream of working with Pixar.
